Ashfield MP blasts Ashfield Council following influx of HMOs.

Lee Anderson MP has urged Ashfield District Council to get a grip on the influx of HMOs in the area.

Applying Article 4 Directions would mean HMOs would need to obtain planning permission from Ashfield District Council.

Lee Anderson said:

"Ashfield Reform UK and I previously campaigned for Ashfield District Council to implement Article 4 directions on all HMOs in the district so that they have to obtain planning permission so that local councillors get to decide whether or not they can go ahead through the planning committee."

"The Ashfield Independents that run the council initially agreed, but then watered down the proposal by agreeing to only apply article 4 directions to HMOs in small areas where the highest concentrations are."

"They then kicked this proposal into the long grass, as we have not heard anything since."

"If Reform UK takes control of Ashfield District Council next May, we will make sure that Article 4 directions are applied to HMOs across the entire district."

"That means that greedy landlords won't be able to rock up to Ashfield, buy cheap housing, convert them to HMOs, and then dump undesirables in them without going through a full planning application which will then be decided by local councillors."

"I'm sick of Ashfield being a dumping ground for undesirable tenants on peaceful streets."
