The Outspoken MP for Ashfield has expressed deep concerns about the Peacock Hotel site in Huthwaite following the planning application to demolish the pub.

According to the MP, there are rumours circulating the village that it could be developed and then used to house illegal migrants. He has written to the owners of the building to demand answers about these rumours.

He wrote:

"Dear Mr Elliott,

I am writing to you following receipt of a number of concerns from Ashfield residents relating to the planning application made at The Peacock Hotel site in Huthwaite.

Residents have been informed that this site will become a HMO or be used as accommodation for illegal migrants. Sites like these are infamous due to the sharp rise in crime and anti-social behaviour which devastates these neighbourhoods. Huthwaite and its residents deserve better.

Therefore, I am seeking the following assurances from your organisation as the developers:

• That this site will NOT be turned into an HMO.

• That this site will NOT be sold or let to any organisation so that the site can be used for the purpose of housing illegal migrants posing as asylum seekers.

As you are aware, this site has historical significance in Huthwaite as it dates back to 1832. Many residents, including myself, share fond memories in that pub.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Best Wishes

Lee Anderson MP"
