Local concerns about single-use vapes have intensified, prompting Councillors Rory Green from Kirkby South and Alan Bite from the Ashfields division to take action. Recently, they visited a nearby shop to discuss the impending regulations on the sale of single-use vapes, especially due to their illegal sales to underage youths in the area.

The community is increasingly alarmed over reports that some shops are selling single-use vapes to minors. This practice will soon face significant scrutiny as a nationwide ban comes into effect on June 1st, following the Government’s Tobacco and Vapes Bill that has passed into law.

Understanding the New Regulations

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill is a significant step in regulating tobacco and vaping products across the UK. A key change is the outright ban on the sale of single-use vapes, which are often designed to attract young consumers. Research indicates that nearly 30% of adolescents have tried vaping, highlighting the urgent need for these regulations.

Additionally, the law states that no tobacco products can be sold to anyone born after January 1, 2009. Councillors Green and Bite emphasised that shop owners must be well-informed about these regulations, and they stressed the importance of responsible selling practices.
