Lee Anderson MP: 'Residents do not trust this Government on Immigration'

The Reform UK Member of Parliament for Ashfield has hit out at Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's recent announcements on illegal migration.

it appears that the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, is causing a civil war amongst Labour MPs with her recent announcements on illegal migration. Her new-found hard-line stance sounds appealing, but I fear that her policies will be of little consequence whilst we are still bound by the ECHR, the 1951 Refugee Convention, the UN Convention against Torture, and the Council of Europe Anti-Trafficking Convention. The rebellion amongst Labour MPs who are openly attacking the Home Secretary on social media is also raising questions as to whether they would allow her to follow through on her policies.

People are also rightly questioning whether her rhetoric is genuine, as it was only a few years ago that she was championing amnesty for all undocumented workers, including asylum seekers who are working illegally. It also wasn't long ago that she signed a letter which helped prevent a plane load of vile foreign criminals from being deported, one of which went on to commit murder.

I hope that I am proved wrong, but I believe that the Home Secretary's recent announcements will do very little, and I have no doubt that they will not solve this immigration crisis. To put it simply, I, and residents all over Britain do not trust this Labour Government on immigration. Only Reform UK has the political will and the means to end this crisis.
