Reform UK MP for Ashfield, Lee Anderson has been campaigning for former miners to have a fairer deal for years with regards to their pension, and was pleased to see the Government agreed to do this for the Mineworkers Pension Scheme. However, the Government didn't for the BCSSS pension.

Many miners and people who worked down the pits were moved to the BCSSS pension, and therefore weren't able to receive a fair share of the investment reserve surplus. I have met with BCSSS members, trustees and ministers, and also held my own debate on this in Parliament to right this wrong.

This week I received from Sarah Jones MP, Minister of State for Industry at the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and the Department for Business and Trade, confirmation that the DESNZ has agreed to engage with the Treasury with an aim to make changes this year.

This is great news for Ashfield. While we still have work to do, it looks positive. We powered the nation; all we want now is fairness.
