Unsurprisingly, one of the biggest issues that gets brought up by residents in Sutton is potholes. The state of our roads is a disgrace, and us Reform UK councillors are taking on this monumental task of trying to fix the roads with a budget that makes up a fifth of what is needed to repair them all to a satisfactory level. Nonetheless, we are making strides in tackling this challenge and have made contributions, as a start we have rewritten the rules on our roads by having a complete review on how we repair them.
Most recently, I have been working with VIA East Midlands and with Nottinghamshire County Council to find a resolution for the huge potholes on the access road next to McDonald's in the town centre. Many residents have complained to me about this as this road is particularly poor and has been left untreated for some time.
Unfortunately, this particular pothole is on a private road, and so Nottinghamshire County Council cannot fix it. However, a letter has now been written to the owner of this road urging them to fix it or face enforcement action from the Council. The state of this road, like many roads in Sutton, have been left in an unacceptable state for too long and I will continue to make sure that this attitude towards our roads changes and that we get some real results in fixing our roads.
