Lee Anderson MP has written to the new Chief Secretary to the Treasury regarding the longstanding British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme (BCSSS) investment reserve injustice facing its 40,000 members, many of which are Ashfield constituents. Lee and the Trustees of the BCSSS have been engaging with the new Government for several months to ensure that a resolution is made as soon as possible.
He asked him to ensure that conversations around this will not be dropped following the recent cabinet reshuffle, and to again renew our calls for the whole £2.3 billion investment reserve to be returned to members as soon as possible. Around 1,800 have passed away since the trustees and I first met with the new Government to discuss this last December. Time is running out. Ex-miners and their families deserve justice and a fairer pension deal, and they need it now.
