Government orders rapid review into Ashfield District Council.

It comes following Ashfield MP Lee Anderson's question to Prime Minister Andy Burnham where the MP urged him to send in Government commissioners.

In a letter to MPs Lee Anderson and Michelle Welsh, local government minister Jim McMahon has confirmed that the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government has been ordered to carry out a rapid best value assessment at Ashfield District Council to assess matters that have been raised with the Government by MPs Lee Anderson and Michelle Welsh.

The Ministry will also be holding an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive of the local authority, and separately with the external auditor.

Government Ministers will also be meeting with both MPs to further discuss the issues at Ashfield District Council.
