Labour Government U-turns on LGR thanks to legal action from Reform-led Councils

Reform UK has forced a major U-Turn from Andy Burnham's Government on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).

Labour has been trying for several years to completely change local councils by scrapping two-tier councils like what we have with Ashfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, and replacing them with single-tier super-councils.
Nobody voted for this - and yet they wanted to force it upon our councils regardless.
Reform UK not only argued that the government’s plans for local government reorganisation were an unmitigated disaster, but we once again put our money where our mouth is.
Earlier this year we took on the government and forced them to give the vote back to millions of people after Labour tried to cancel democracy. Now, thanks to our judicial reviews and legal action in affected Reform-led councils, the government has backed down on their plans yet again.
Only Reform had the backbone to stand up to these reckless plans. This is yet another embarrassing defeat for Labour.
Only Reform backs real democracy.
Going forwards, we are working hard to find out exactly how many millions of pounds of taxpayer's money was spent by councils for the preparation of LGR, and Reform UK will be calling for that money to be reimbursed to councils.
I also look forward to working with Ashfield Reform UK to fight the elections to Ashfield District Council in May 2027.
We will finally rid our area of the infamous Ashfield Independents
